Women are the main breadwinners in a record-high 40% of households with children, but current workplace policies too often don’t reflect today’s reality. That hurts our families and hurts our economy. There are measures our country can take to ensure economic security for women and families everywhere, like raising the minimum wage and supporting paycheck fairness.
EQUAL PAY
Women deserve equal pay for equal work. It’s that simple. Women working full time make an average of just 77 cents for every dollar that men earn. If things don’t change, we are holding our families back and compromising our children’s chances at success.
RAISING THE MINIMUM WAGE
Almost two-thirds of workers making minimum wage or less are women, earning just $14,500 a year—below the poverty line for a family of four. Sign OFA’s petition and tell lawmakers it’s time to raise the minimum wage.
PAID LEAVE
Only 51% of women have access to paid leave after having their first child, and 40% of private-sector employees work at a company that does not offer sick pay. The lack of access to paid leave and affordable childcare options threatens the economic security of women and working families. WOMEN’S HEALTH
AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE
The Affordable Care Act provides greater access to quality, affordable care for women and their families. Women can no longer be charged more than men for health insurance just because they’re women. Health care reform also strengthened women’s access to care and provides no-cost preventive care—including mammograms, contraception, osteoporosis screenings, and annual checkups.
However, there are lawmakers who are trying to take away those new benefits and protections by repealing the Affordable Care Act. We can’t go back to a broken health care system. OFA volunteers are making sure everybody knows how Obamacare is helping millions of people, and that’s why it’s here to stay.
PROTECTING ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE
The fight to protect women’s access to reproductive health care continues, as lawmakers across the country seek out measures designed to curb women’s reproductive choices. In January 2014, some members of the U.S. House of Representatives actually voted to take away health coverage choices for millions of women and families and severely restrict women’s access to comprehensive reproductive care. Stand up to protect access to reproductive health care and fight back against anyone who tries to roll back the right for a women to make her own health care decisions.

JOIN THE WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP CORPS
The Women’s Leadership Corps is a community of dedicated OFA supporters building a support system of women leaders across the country, raising women’s voices on the issues that matter to them, and expanding the network of supporters who are taking action on the issues that affect women’s lives.
Our goal is to prepare each Women’s Leadership Corps member to be a local advocate on the issues that impact women in their communities. OFA provides training to empower members to bring the issues of women’s health, economic security, and leadership to the forefront of conversations in communities across the country. And we work to ensure our elected officials recognize the importance of taking action on these issues.
